What to do with the rest of your life
Catalyst
1980

Given the economic climate of the day, outdated career stuff in circulating collections really makes my blood boil!  This wonderful book from 1980 gives our modern gal great advice on everything from professional dress to exciting new career as a keypunch operator.  (Personal note from MY reference desk:  I have helped people that really haven’t had to prepare a resume in 20-30 years and they won’t realize that what used to go for resume content and format has changed.)  P.S.  If you are under the age of 50, I bet you couldn’t tell me who Bess Myerson is without a Google search!

I just turned 44, and I know who Bess Myerson is! Any woman whose mom was a “women’s libber” in the 1970s will know Myerson, especially if you grew up anywhere near New York. Maybe this book should be substituted for the fashion advice in the other title you have listed, at least the trench coat on the cover is a classic!

I’m 38 and know who Myerson is, but unfortunately only because of her later legal problems.

I saw the cover of this and knew I had to comment – Bess Myerson! Oh my word! I’m proud (?) to say I’m 31 and remember the Bess Mess from the late 80s.

I bet this book would have skyrocketed if she’d ended up Senator. But, I’m not sure what life would have been like without Al D’Amato.

I think she’s smiling because she married a rich guy,and thinks “working women” are stupid…

Hi there. I just discovered your website, as I am am an avid bookworm who frequents libraries.
I am only 30, but I also know about Bess Myerson as some years ago I read a book about her influence-peddling scandal. I also was shocked when I read about the Anti-Semitism she encoutered when she won Miss America back in the 40’s. Other than that, I rarely think much about her. I live across the Canada/U.S. border in Niagara Falls, Ont. & I will have to check one day at my local library to see if there are only books there that may be suitable for your website.

I’m 28 (almost) and you’re right, I didn’t know who Bess Myerson was, so I looked her up. Super interesting lady!
