The Facts of Love
Comfort
1979

Since we just had the weddings, I thought this might help for the “after party”.  Thanks to midwestern submitter who was kind enough to give me the heads up on this old title.   I can already tell these two crazy kids on the cover are just headed for trouble!  Probably taking one of the super cool vans in the post from July 15, and headed for trouble!

Isn’t Alex Comfort the ‘Joy Of Sex’ guy? I could be way off here; it just sounds right, but that might not mean anything.

And written by the same folks who brought us The Joy of Sex. Does it have line drawings inside of creepy teenage hippies engaged in heavy petting?

The fact that her head is about half the size of his —definitely a red flag.

Hm–from the author of The Joy of Sex. Some things don’t change…I wonder if there’s still any useful information in the book.

Oh man. Just look at the way they’re dressed! If kids can’t be more modest, I have no idea how we’re supposed to keep them out of trouble.

I’d like to thank the submitter of this book. Now I have The Facts Of Life theme stuck in my head.

I like how it’s written by the Comforts. Dr. Comfort sounds like Officer Friendly’s medical counterpart.

It can’t be that bad – it’s by life-long anarchist and “Joy of Sex” auteur, Alex Comfort. Of historical interest for those reasons at least.

I’m finding no comfort in this book.

Seriously- I don’t remember people having such weird shaped heads in the 70’s.

Is this aimed at teens? Because I think they’d be turned off by the cover alone, regardless of whether the information is stil accurate or not. I mean, just look at how badly out of scale her HEAD is!

The kids on the cover can’t be older than 11 or 12!? His arm shouldn’t be there!

Of course maybe I am just used to “todays” kids who always look ten years older than they are. Maybe in the 70s those kids on the cover were what the average 15/16 yr old looked like.

    What would Judy Blume do?

Am I the only one who thinks the girl looks like LeAnn Rimes and the guy looks like Nick LeShelle (don’t know if I’m spelling his name correctly–he used to be married to Jessica Simpson, and, yes, I am ashamed that I know that fact).

LeAnn & Nick: The early years.

Yeah, the inaccurate proportions of these two “teens” is freaking me out. Her torso is nearly half the length of his, yet her hand on his shoulder is unusually large and manish. The boy looks like he is 12 and she’s his 8-year-old sister. This was supposed to be published in the ‘70’s, where’s his Johnny-collar shirt and Travolta inspired hairdo? How come she doesn’t have the 70’s disco-prairie look? How can one write a sex books for teens that looks this unappealing? If I was a 70’s teen I’d die of embarrassment if this book was found in my possession.

aren’t they just a little bit too young to be in love? LOL

… why does the cover design recall a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book?

If I remember correctly that book made the rounds in my junior high when I attended there. Everyone read it. (That was over 25 years ago, though, LOL.)
