Poor Rover! He is foaming at the mouth! I wonder where he is headed?  I have a morbid curiousity about this poor creature.  This book is mildly interesting but I wonder if it is still good information.  The illustrations aren’t that interesting and all I can think about is that scene from Old Yeller.

I used to live in a seaside town and there were scary rabies warnings everywhere. No wonder I’m not keen on dogs!

That dog looks like the spectral dog that Jane Eyre worries about before she meets Mr. Rochester. :/

Interesting. I have 2 friends who were bitten by rabid bats, but none bitten by rabid dogs. What are the statistics on this? Anyway the book has to go! Love this site!

Yeah, I bet it’s inaccurate, as cats now out number dogs in rabies cases. And canine variant has been pretty much eradicated in the US though wildlife variant isn’t yet but they’re working on that.

I’m sure someone has put out something newer…

I’m pretty sure the treatment for rabies, at least in humans, has changed since that book was put out. I seem to recall being told the needles in the stomach thing wasn’t done any more, and that was in the mid eighties. Interesting for the history of medicine, but certainly not current.
