Stop smoking now!

To Smoke or Not to Smoke
Terry
1973

Isn’t this a pretty book for the kids?  If I am not mistaken, that is a bit of mold on the cover, so I think we can go with a weed on condition alone.  Smoking materials are almost humorous from the old days since they do not seem to emphasize the health effects in quite the same fervor a more modern selection would…  Weed away (the book).  ALB does not endorse smoking of any substance, however ALB does enjoy a nice cocktail every now and then especially after a long day on the reference desk!

I’m loving the implied smoke-rings made by having all the O’s lined up!

A while back I found one of my aunt’s (or uncle’s) old drivers ed books at my grandmother’s house. It was from about the same time period as this book and had a section on substances. “You may often hear that people drive better after a few drinks… THIS IS A MYTH!”

I can’t even imagine what the smoking book’s like, but if it’s anything like the driver’s ed chapter… maybe we should just say all substance-related books from the 1970’s should be done away with?

Hypocrisy. It’s okay to weed some books on the basis that they don’t discourage people enough against taking one drug, but you support another. Talk about ideological bias.

You have GOT to be kidding me. It seems to me that you have missed the point of this blog: a light-hearted look at anachronistic library holdings, not some lofty, intellectually high-minded perch from which the authors send forth their judgments and expect the world to quiver and quake in awe of their top 1 percentile IQ. I suggest you spend less time rooting out the… how did you put it… “hypocrisy” and “ideological bias” of others and instead spend more time recognizing the context of the content so you can save yourself the time and energy of typing out baseless accusations.

I recognize Francois Tremblay. Given the number of times I’ve seen his posts–and the fact that they’re invariably irritable–I get the impression that he does nothing other than angrily commenting on other people’s blogs all day. It’s a little bizarre.

    Francois,

You know that Cocktail might be a glass of V-8.

Be impeccable with your word, don’t take it personally, don’t assume and simply do the best you can do in the context given.

That title’s pretty ambiguous – maybe it encourages its readers to smoke.
