Tested Secretarial Techniques for Getting Things Done
Simpson
1973

Chapters 4 and 7 look promising, but once again, this is just old. Chapter 5 is all about getting a memo of appreciation from the boss which I guess is better than a raise or bonus. I wonder if the boss will make you type up your own memo of appreciation.

Real appreciation is green and folds.

The author looks like she was the model for the previous book.

Meh, all I need to get by is my gold pen-necklace.

To what type of “special” jobs is she referring in Chapter 5? That just scares me.

I’m scared by what the “special” jobs in chapter 5 might be.
It does seem like a lot of the core issues are still relevant, but I’m sure many of the solutions have not aged well. I’d love to flip through this one, though.

I am impressed they did a whole chapter on how to deal with women in the workplace–in a book that’s written for women.

Do we still think that bosses are a ‘him’.
Yes, special jobs are particularly worrying! (lol)
I think chapters 4 and 7 might definately be worth reading in my office right now!

I could use chapter 4, 8 & 9. I love how the author tells it like it really is by using terms like ” rumors, jealousy and intrigue.” More modern books use tend to use euphemisms for these sorts of office problems.

the author’s qualifications are pretty impressive, though, considering when she was writing. this one would be super interesting for a research collection; otherwise, definitely a weeder.

But who would type up the memo of appreciation? Typing your own lauds would seem a bit… hollow to me.

LOL I just had this image of the boss telling his secretary to type up herself a memo of appreciation so he can sign it and give it back to her…

The wooden #2 pencil on the cover was as far as I needed to go with this one. Weed me please…

It’s useless if it doesn’t cover how not to become a Farmville fanatic or bedazzled by BeJeweled (my top score today 104,000 woohoo!) !! to say nothing of Mafia wars.
